Studio Props

A post card with an image of two girls with a pull toy Newfoundland. Written on the reverse is: July 7, 1914, tall girl is Lavera Armstrong, Sardinia NY. Looking her up I found her on census’ in the same town for her whole life. She was born Lavera Marie Tarbell on April 7, 1902. She married Jessie W. Armstrong in 1921 when she was 18. She had several children, and passed away December of 1989.

Here is a vintage photo of the same studio prop with a charming story – the young lady pictured is none other than Terri Lewin’s grandmother- proving that there is, in fact, a multi-generational Newf obsession.

Props such as these were popular in photographer studios in the early 1900’s.
