Our Collection

The word ephemera comes from the Greek word ephēmeros, which means “’lasting only a day.” Although not originally intended to be collected as art objects, some ephemera is preserved and collected for its artistic merit or historic interest.

Ephemera Society of America

We added our first Newfoundland Dog to our family in 1992. Shortly after, attending our first National Specialty Show, the experience of vendor shopping was our introduction to paper ephemera that was available in the Newfoundland world.

As a busy family with young, growing children and an expanding number of big, hairy, drooling dogs at home, ephemera proved an ideal collectible. Collecting also provided an introduction to like-minded collectors.

Over the years, as our collection has grown, membership in the Newfoundland Club of America and the Ephemera Society of America has helped broaden our knowledge base, expand our opportunities to exhibit and add to our collection, and to share our love of these little scraps of beauty with Newfoundland lovers everywhere.

Besides being enjoyable to find and collect, vintage ephemera is valuable primary source information which offers unique windows into culture’s past.

“Every soul that once trod this brutal earth leaves their imprint upon the things that mattered to them. The things that they held, the things that once echoed to the beat of their hearts. That heartbeat may yet be felt, faint but clear, transmitted through the fabric of those belongings, linking us to the dear one long gone through however many years have passed.”
